Frequently asked questions:

How far in advance do I need to book?

Normally the weekends are more popular, so it's preferable to book at least one to two weeks in advance if you can.

What happens on the day of my flight?

On the day, we ask that you call to check for weather, or for any other unforeseen operational problems. It is preferred that you call the previous day, or one to two hours before your booked time, depending the distance being travelled and the time taken to arrive at the airfield.

Before you fly you will receive a flight briefing by an instructor who will explain most aspects of your flight including the effects of the controls and how an aeroplane flies. At this time, the instructor will give an indication of where your flight may take you. This will depend on the length of your flight, your personal choice and of course the weather.

What do I bring with me?

We suggest when you arrive for your flight, that you bring your valid gift voucher, your sunglasses, your camera and preferably wear comfortable clothing.

Can I extend my flight?

If you want to extend the time of your flight, or want someone else to go with you in the rear seat(s) of our Piper Warrior, please call our Office: 01779 583 101 or Mobile: 07772 150 066 and we will do our best to help.

Can I take anyone else flying with me?

Yes, but only in our Piper Warrior 4-seat aircraft. They will be supplied with a headset(s) so they can fully participate in the progress of the flight, and also fully communicate with yourself and your instructor in the front seats. Note: Please check price list for details.

When do you fly?

Aberdeen Air fly 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year - weather permitting. It is not always best to wait for a nice summer's day, as we get some very good flying weather in the winter. To make a booking just call, text, or e-mail and we will be able to assist you to make a booking.

Can I bring friends and family to watch?

Guests are extremely welcome at Longside. Please don't be afraid to ask to be shown (accompanied) around the hangar as there is some very interesting aircraft to be seen there. We are a friendly bunch, and of course the kettle is always on!

Also your guests may be able to take a photograph of you in the aircraft, so please don't be afraid to ask your instructor or one of our club members on the day.

What happens if the weather is not suitable?

Flying can sometimes be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, such as rain, fog, low cloud and high or gusty winds. Should your flight be cancelled due to any of the foregoing, we can easily re-schedule your booking for another suitable time. Note: if this happens we will extend the validity period of your voucher subject to another booking being made on the day, and the booking is made within a period of one month following the day of cancellation.

What happens if I have to cancel my flight?

Changes or cancellations can only normally be made with at least 12 hours notice prior to your booking, and failure to show on the day will invalidate your voucher. However, if this was due to 'extenuating circumstances' this will be waived and another suitable booking made for you.

We are sure you will really enjoy your flight with us, and even if you don't decide to become a pilot and continue flying, it will surely be one of the most 'memorable experiences' that you will carry with you, for the rest of your life.
